Best phone case painting ideas

Today I will tell you some phone case painting ideas for you to unleash your creativity. Also, I want to show you how to protect the paint with epoxy resin.

Making your own cases will give you a lot of ideas to make and I can really say that if you are thinking of opening a small business, this tutorial is perfect for you.

There are many styles to make these cases, some prefer to paint them by hand and then put a layer of resin, others make them with pure resins and can also be made with combinations of stickers, dried flowers, and more.

Now let’s take a look at some fabulous phone case ideas

Best phone case painting ideas (Easy DIY)

Before we start making our cases I want to tell you a little bit more about epoxy resin. First of all, it is more resistant than other products, it leaves a very good finish and does not shrink until it dries.

I also recommend using a resin that contains 50% of each component (component A and component B), because if there is too little component B, it can be too liquid and will not help you work well.

As for the paint, I prefer that you use acrylic paint, as it dries quickly and you will be able to work faster, which is a great advantage if you have to make a lot of covers.

Let’s see what we need for our painted phone cases!

Essential Materials:

  • Clear cell phone cases.
  • Epoxy resin (can be “Table Top” resin)
  • Adhesive tape
  • Liquid silicone
  • Acrylic paint
  • Wooden sticks
  • Lighter

Step-by-step of how to paint phone cases:

  • Step 1

The first thing to do is to prepare your sleeves, you are going to remove the top plastic that covers them, and then you are going to put tape on the edges to protect them from the paint and the resin.
  • Step 2

Now you are going to put some liquid silicone in the holes of the case and on the edges (this should be done on the bottom of the case, i.e. where the cell phone goes).

Also, try to be careful not to put silicone too close to the area where you are going to paint (only put silicone on the edges to fix the adhesive tape).
  • Step 3

The next thing you will do is to paint a colored background over the entire area you have chosen, here you can use acrylic paint and fill in the entire area.

You can use either black or white, the idea is to have a neutral background that will allow you to make a design or drawing.

If, for example, you want to make only flowers or circles, you can fill in only one part and leave the other part transparent.
  • Step 4

Paint the whole design you have in mind with acrylic paint.
  • Step 5

While the paint dries, you will prepare the epoxy resin in a plastic container. Put 20 grams of resin and mix it for 3 to 5 minutes.

Then with the help of a spatula, you are going to place the resin over the design you made, and all over that part of the case (it will be like a varnish over the case).
  • Step 6

When the resin layer dries you can remove any remaining bubbles with a lighter (try to be very careful here!).
  • Step 7

Let the resin dry for at least 24 hours and cover your sleeves with bold so they don’t get dirty.

When they are ready remove the adhesive tape, silicone, and the bottom protective plastic that you had left on to protect them before painting.

And now you know one of the best phone case ideas!

If for some reason you have some excess resin, you can remove it very carefully with the help of a cutter.

Another option that can help you is the following:

Essential materials:

  • Indelible felt-tip pen
  • Matt acrylic paint
  • Brushes
  • Transparent acrylic cell phone covers
  • Image of drawing you want to paint printed on a sheet (adapted to the size of your cell phone)
  • Adhesive Tape
  • Step 1

Clean the bottom of your phone case (inside where your phone goes) with a cloth or cotton.
  • Step 2

Take the image, place it underneath, and on the other side of the bottom that you are going to paint. Then secure it with some tape so that it doesn’t move.

You outline the drawing (it would be like tracing).

Here try to do it on all the lines you see, so your drawing is not incomplete.
  • Step 3

Then you start painting with acrylic paint by color. You can also do all the details of light and shadows that your drawing requires (try to do all the light parts first).

Another detail, when you start painting, is to make touches of paint with the brush instead of brushstrokes.

Also, remember to let the paint dry before placing another new color nearby.
  • Step 4

Let the whole drawing dry and if you want you can add a coat of epoxy resin to keep it intact over time.

I really think this is an excellent way to start a business since the cases are inexpensive and the materials you need are too.

As I was saying, it won’t take you much time to make several, so if your client asks you to customize one of them with a particular design or drawing, you can do it without any problem.
